Does your religion correlate with your beliefs on sexism?

I’m not going to claim that I am religious because that would be a lie. The truth is, I am not sure what my spirituality is but I do know what I believe in. I believe in equality, love, and respect. I also know that I have witnessed how Southern Christian families view sexism.

I grew up in the south, along the bible belt, and I was raised Christian. I have watched my mother wait on my father hand and foot. I have read the bible and learned that Eve was created in the image of Adam. She was created to keep him happy and to accompany him in the world that God created for him. In the bible, women are created for man. For example in Corinthians 11:3, the bible reads. “but I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.” Does that sound sexist to you? I know it looks a bit fishy from here. If you want to check out more controversial bible versus you can follow this link

  1. I do believe there is sexism in the bible, though I believe it is due to the people who translated it from its original versions. I do not believe that Christianity started out as a sexist religion, I think it is due to those who translated the bible and their goal was to oppress women. They used the power of language and literature to influence a mass of people.

    • I agree that language is a powerful tool for persuasion. I also agree that the people who translate it have great influence on how it is perceived by the readers. I think that today the bible seems more sexist than ever due to the way modern people are interpreting it. Thank you for your comment! It most definitely reinforces the idea of this piece.
