tw: sex, genitalia mention
Most of you have probably learned about safe sex at some point, either in high school or during a college orientation session. You’ve learned, how to put a condom on a banana, and you’ve learned about available birth control options (patches, pills, rings and the like). You’ve probably even learned that birth control can help regulate the menstrual cycle.
You’ve learned a lot. So, what I am about to say may shock you.
Condoms are not the only things you need to have safe sex.
You see, sex ed available in the public school systems of this country is extremely cisheteronormative. They assume that every sex act involves the interlocking of a penis and a vagina. This is a load of horse hockey. Oral sex exists. Manual stimulation exists. Scissoring exists (it’s real, I promise). And the education system, at least from what I’ve seen, doesn’t teach a thing about how to do these things safely. So, with the rest of this post, that’s what I’m going to do.
I understand that these things can get a little pricey. Who knows, maybe if we make enough noise, the Health Center will start carrying them.
